Aspes – The secret beach of the Cretan south

About 58 km south of Heraklion, in one of the most inaccessible areas of the Asterousia Mountains, is located the beach of Aspes. Aspes, is accessible only by boat and the nearest harbor is situated 4km east, in the settlement Tris Ekklissies or Tsoutsouras.

The beach, has as its main feature, the dark black and thick sand and is surrounded by high rocks on which are formed, large caves with rectangular sides. The sea has a bright blue-green color, while the beach, depending on the prevailing weather conditions, changes appearance and size. So, when there is a little wave, the beach is almost lost.

If you manage to get here, the sea is ideal for swimming, snorkeling and fishing, while it is worth collecting salt from the cavities formed on the rocks.
