Horseback riding is a common activity in Crete, as the island has a long tradition in using horses in everyday life. Many Cretans own a Cretan horse, the so called “georgalidiko”. This kind of horse, perfectly adapted to the rugged terrains of Crete, takes part in competitions and shows. On the island there are many riding clubs and associations, while companies offer riding courses or excursions.
All over the island, there are many places for sport, recreation and culture of horses. Most of them have the following activities:
Free Horse riding is offered for all ages, giving you moments of relaxation and freedom.
Therapeutic Riding Lessons for disabled by specially trained staff.
Playful Riding Lessons by qualified personnel for children.
Special programs and interactive games for school – groups.
The purpose of all the courses is to familiarize children with horses and their care, as well as, nature in general.
