Fratiano Gorge is one long canyons of Rethymno Prefecture. Its entrance is located 23km southeast of Rethymnon, next to the village Frati, and its mouth is located near the upper part of the gorge Kourtaliotiko. A river originating from the area of Gious Kambos, flows the gorge and passes through the valley of Spili with the numerous springs, then through the Fratiano Gorge flows into the river of Kourtaliotis, before reaching the beach of Preveli.
The route in the gorge requires strength, as it has several small waterfalls and swimming is necessary in many of its narrow spots. Its crossing takes about 7 hours while in many places special attention is required. After 5 hours we meet a waterfall of 6-7 meters, which requires a detour through a barbed wire.
After the merging of the river with the Kourtaliotiko river, you can continue your journey to the beach of Preveli for another 2-3 hours.
